By day, Hill & Szrok is a fancy butchers. By night, it's a cosy restaurant that transforms the day's produce into some amazing dishes. A recent Sunday night was extra special as chef Jamie Allan (ex-Chateaubriand, Paris) took over the shop for his Breakfast of Champions pop-up (that contained no actual breakfast. Or even 'brinner', thank God).
The £40 six-course dinner included:
Snacks of anchovies, nocellara olives and homemade salami
Octopus with aioli
Mackerel with turnip carpaccio and freeze-dried raspberries
Hake with samphire, herbs, wakame and preserved lemons, drizzled with brown butter
Lamb three ways: steak, belly and kidney with a dandelion and anchovy dressing
Ricotta with poached rhubarb, honeycomb and a touch of honey
