Glasto? Nope - Gelato, actually. We know we'd be much rather be facedown in a tub of ice cream than a muddy field, so it's lucky that the Gelato Festival is on all this weekend down in Old Spitalfields Market. Some of Italy's greatest frozen dessert maestros have formed a sort of super-group and are East London bound for a few days of pure, ice cream pleasure. Expect savoury flavours, booze-enhanced scoops and of, course, the classics too. It runs from 10am-8pm Friday to Sunday, it's free to enter or you can buy a gelato card which costs £10 from the website here, or £15 on the door, and this includes five (FIVE!) scoops of joy plus other goodies. Top tip for cardholders - vote for your favourite flavour and get another one free. More details here.
If you're after even more indulgence to celebrate not living under a canvas sheet with just a pack of facewipes and a warm cider for company, may we suggest a bottomless booze brunch? The trend for a drink-all-the-bellinis-you-can-handle has finally moved from Central over to East, and it's Jones & Sons who are offering a brunch to totally make your weekend. For £30, choose a dish from their breakfast menu like the full fry-up, avocado and poached eggs on toast or pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and get stuck into your cocktail of choice. Runs in their Arcola St venue from 11am and in their Trip Kitchen space in Haggerston from 10am.
If you're a total sucker for Game of Thrones, you're probably going to want to go to a dinner party inspired by the show, aren't you? Funky Feast and chef Eric Allangba are putting on a seven-course meal, including a House Stark (Winterfell) duck egg and oat pancake, cream of mushroom and snail soup (Casterly Rock), pigeon pie, cabbage and game liver and confit lamb shoulder. It takes place in Farringdon at the Sekforde Arms from 8pm and tickets cost £45 from here.
And, to round the weekend off with a bit of class, there's a night of Greek wine and cheese tasting at Isle of Olive, just off Broadway market. Sommelier Uli Gambero will be taking guests on a tasty journey on the highlights Greece has to offer, including four different reds and four whites. Tickets cost £16 from here and it runs from 6-9pm.
