Valentine's Day falls on a weekend this year, which means that in all likelihood, your other half is going to want to be taken out for dinner. Or, maybe you've got a brand new plaything and you just want to get laid. Either way, they can't fail to be impressed when you pull out a table at one of these intimate supperclubs and dinners taking place in the 'hood over V Day weekend. We'll leave the Champagne and the hot lovin' up to you...
The Fabulous Valentine's Adventure dinner
This supperclub goes all romantic this weekend, with their Valentine's Adventure dinner. Starting off with a My Bloody Valentine cocktail (arf), it's on to a four-course meal that includes a starter of radishes, apples and purple sprouting broccoli, halibut with salsify and chard, then there's corn-fed chicken with winter greens and for dessert, blood orange and chocolate. It takes place in the hosts' house just off Old Street, tickets cost £44 from here and it starts at 7pm. Plus, it's BYOB.
The Flaming Flamingo
It's an E5 Bakehouse take over for The Flaming Flamingo and their unique mix of Mexican-Asian cuisine this weekend. For lover's day, there will be a shared mix of dishes like guacamole and salsa, black bean hummus tacos with salsa verde, followed by lemongrass turmeric fish in lettuce cups with fresh herbs and sticky rice. Dessert is the dreamy sounding chocolate sorbet with cashew ice cream and sesame snaps. Tickets cost £35 from here and you're free to bring your own booze at this one, too.
Venetian dinner at Il Cudega
Lombardy restaurant Il Cudega is looking to Venice to bring a bit of lurrrve to their special Valentine's dinner. If customers come wearing a Venetian mask, they'll be able to get a free glass of Prosecco with their meal. On the night, the £45 three-course menu includes beef carpaccio, Dorset crab and avocado salad followed by either king prawn and dandelion ravioli or pumpkin and gorgonzola lasagne. Dessert is chocolate and raspberry tiramisu or passion fruit crème brulee. Thirsty? Bottles of Casanova Prosecco (how fitting) will cost £20 each. To book, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Smoke and Salt: Your heart, our hearth
These guys have got your Valentine's day dinner covered, and are promising a “beautiful, seductive menu” for the big night. They're massively into smoking and curing their foods and this is evident in their dishes planned for the evening; starting with a (very) welcome cocktail, there will be trout with blood orange and purple sprouting broccoli, then venison with brassicas, pumpernickel and chestnuts. For dessert, there's a chocolate and stout treat, finishing with some petits fours. The event takes place in a little cafe near Highbury and Islington, costs £35 from here and starts at 7pm. Also running Sat 13.
The Valentine FIX
Chef James Cochran at FIX has come up with an incredibly indulgent tasting menu especially for this weekend, and is serving up his passion-inducing six-courser on Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14. Expect treats like Whistable oysters, roast Cornish scallops with ras el hanout, treacle-cured smoked salmon, spicy chicken wings with confit egg yolk, beef shortrib and for dessert, milk chocolate mousse with banana ice cream. If this doesn't help you seal the deal with your partner, then, quite frankly, love is dead. It's £55 a head for dinner and to book, email anna@restaurantFIX.co.uk.
Happy Endings Dessert Night
London's only all-dessert dinner, Happy Endings, returns and this time it's going hand-in-hand with cocktail legends Manhattans Project. They're putting on a five-course dessert feast at POND Dalston - and each of the sweet dishes will be paired with a banging cocktail from the bar. There's two sittings during the day, at 4-7pm or 8-11pm and it's £45 with one cocktail, desserts and tea or £80 if you're doing it right and going with a cocktail for each course. Tickets and more details here.
